Metal Halide Lamps such as HMI, HMP, HTI, HSR, HMP and HSD lamps are discharge lamps in which light is generated by an electrical discharge in a high-pressure chemical atmosphere of mercury and rare earth materials.
Their main application field lies in film and studio production due to their daylight spectrum. Because of their high brilliance metal halide lamps are used for various purposes such as overhead and slide projection, solar simulation, lightguide applications (endoskopy, minimal invasive surgery), architectural effect lighting and advertising projection. They take care of "special effects" needed in event lighting, trade fair and discotheque.
Metal Halide Lamps provide the following key technologies:
- Daylight character (5600-6000K): supplying nearly continuous daylight spectrum for film shooting
- Super quiet operation: "low-noise" lighting for stage and studio recording
- Dim and boost operation for projection purposes (especially HMP)
